MycaNova® is the name of the vegan mycelium material made by Citribel, a company based in Tienen, Belgium. Citribel uses a specific type of fungus and a natural production process called “surface fermentation” to produce citric acid from a waste stream called sugar molasses. During the same process, a vegan mycelium layer grows as a co-product. Citribel is the only manufacturer worldwide using this unique process, enabling them to create a vegan mycelium material of high and consistent quality on an industrial scale.
After harvesting, the vegan mycelium biomass is dried and ground into powder. After mixing with specific binders and a suitable backing material, a custom-made vegan MycaNova® material is created to perfectly meet the specific needs of a doctor’s bag, with a bio content of 70%.
